BIAB vs Gel Nails - Which is Right for You?

If you've ever sat in a nail salon wondering whether to go for BIAB or gel, you're not alone. It's one of the most common questions we get asked at Wellness Lounge - and the honest answer is that they're quite different treatments, designed for different needs.
Here's everything you need to know.
What is BIAB?
BIAB stands for Builder In A Bottle. It's a gel-based product that's applied directly to your natural nail to create a strong, flexible overlay. Unlike traditional gels, BIAB is thicker and more durable - it actually helps strengthen your natural nail underneath rather than damaging it over time.
BIAB is ideal if you have weak, brittle or damaged nails, or if you want something that lasts longer between appointments. Most clients get 3-4 weeks before they need an infill.
What are Gel Nails?
Gel nails use a softer gel formula that's cured under a UV or LED lamp. They give a glossy, natural-looking finish and are great if you want a polished look without too much thickness or weight on the nail.
Gel is ideal if your nails are already in good condition and you want a clean, low-maintenance finish. They typically last 2-3 weeks.
The Key Differences
BIAB is stronger and more protective - it acts like a shield over your natural nail. Gel is lighter and more flexible. BIAB tends to last longer and is better suited to anyone who struggles with breakage. Gel is a great everyday option for nails that don't need extra support.
Which One Should You Choose?
If your nails are weak, peeling or prone to breaking - BIAB is the better choice. If your nails are healthy and you just want a beautiful finish that lasts - gel works perfectly.
